B.S Microbiology Eighth Semester (Session 2015)

This course is about viruses of medical importance. This includes the interaction of the virus with a host cell, infection, multiplication, and release from host cells as well as the impact of infection on the host cell. Diagnosis of viral infection and the study of anti-viral agents also includes in the course.

Besides this, the course includes a study of molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics of medically important and emerging viruses such as:

·         Coronaviruses           (e.g. COVID19, SARS, MERS-CoV)

·         Poxviruses                 (e.g.  smallpox virus)

·         Hepatitis viruses        (e.g.  Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E viruses)

·         Herpes viruses           (e.g. Herpes simplex virus, Human cytomegalovirus)

·         Retroviruses              (e.g. HIV)

·         Tumor viruses etc     (DNA & RNA)
