Why did Mustafa Kemal initiate a series of reforms in Turkey? What prompted him to begin with such drastic reforms that changed the nation?

As the founder of Turkish republic & its first president, Mustafa kemal Attaturk stands as a towering figure of the 20th century.

He introduced reforms which had been considered as vital importance for the country's political, social & economic life after the defeat of the ottoman empire in WW1 that aimed at rapidly transforming Turkey into a modern state & broadly transforming the legal & social system of Turkish life.

The ideological grounds for Atatürk's improvement program became recognized as Kemalism. Its main points were mentioned in the Six Arrows of Kemalism as republicanism, nationalism, populism, reformism, statism, and secularism. It was crucial at the time for the Republic of Turkey to be refurbished to step towards the level of modern civilizations and to be an active member of the culturally progressed societies. Mustafa Kemal modernized the life of his country as it collapsed by the lake of modernization. This reform was of vital importance for the salvation and survival of his country.

Liberal attitude of the Attaturk. Moreover Turkish empire became the 'sick man of Europe'. Because of poor administration by the Jenneseries and Ottoman empire poor performance Turkish people wanted change.
